When Emily Skopov saw her children become disillusioned with the political process, she knew that she had to step up and run for office herself. She no longer wanted to see politicians put corporate and donor interests over their constituents and wished to be a different type of legislator, one that made her district believe in the power of democracy once again.
For too long representatives in the 28th district have held party interests over the interests of their constituents. Emily will change that. While Emily is a Democrat, she will support legislation that helps her neighbors and her district, regardless of which party it comes from.
One of Emily’s first priorities will be making healthcare more affordable for Pennsylvanians. That’s why she’s calling for a non-partisan independent review of our healthcare system to see the most effective ways to cut costs without limiting options and services. She will also increase treatment programs for those affected by the opioid crisis.
Emily will also help build an economy that works for all Pennsylvanians. Many regions in Western Pennsylvania have not recovered from the recession and Emily wants to ensure that these regions have the resources they need to rebuild for success into the 21st century. That’s why she supports job training and increased investments to help new industries prosper in our communities.
