Candidate Spotlight:

James Craig

State Senate

SD-46

sd46 james craig

James Craig wants to bring the American Dream back to Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Born and raised in Washington County, Jimmy was born to family of hard-working middle class parents. His dad was a union ironworker and his mother a waitress. However, after an injury on the job, his father became addicted to prescription opioids.

With trouble at home, his education in the public schools became even more important. His amazing teachers became like second mothers to him, helping him to find his passion for helping people. Continuing his public education after high school, he attended CCAC – Washington and later the University of Pittsburgh, where he joined the Air Force ROTC and worked over 30 hours a week to afford his education. His hard work paid off and Jimmy was offered a scholarship to Pitt Law where he lent his legal knowledge to local organizations in need of assistance.

Just one week before his bar exam, his father was admitted to hospital for cancer and his mother, overwhelmed with grief, overdosed on prescription opioids. A few years later, so did his brother. Jimmy knows how hard it is to escape the cycle of poverty and just how bad the opioid crisis is hurting families.

His dedication to helping others never faltered. He started his own small legal firm – Close to Home Settlement Services, LLC, back home in Washington County, with the goal of helping service members, from veterans to first responders, purchase homes.

With of his experience, Jimmy wants to be of service to even more people. He knows that with hard work, the American Dream is still attainable, but that it often needs help from the kindness of others. With Jimmy in the state senate, Washington County will have a true fighter working for them, doing everything he can to improve their daily lives.
