Leanne Krueger-Braneky represents Pennsylvania’s 161st Legislative District in Delaware County. Leanne made history in 2015 as the first woman to represent the district, flipping a seat controlled by Republicans since the Tea Party wave of 2010. Leanne serves as Democratic Secretary of the Labor & Industry Committee, Democratic Chair of the Commerce sub-committee on Small Business, member of the Appropriations Committee, Vice Chair of the SAFE Caucus, which addresses gun violence prevention, and co-founder of the Climate Caucus in the Pennsylvania House. Although she’s only been in office since 2015, Leanne has quickly emerged as a leading voice for women, families, and our environment.
Prior to elected office, Leanne served as the first Executive Director of the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia (SBN), and Senior Director of Strategy and Development at the Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE), an organization which supports over 50,000 locally-owned, independent businesses across the country to create a stronger, fairer economy. Under Leanne’s leadership, SBN played a large role in making the Philadelphia region the most sustainable in the nation, helping attract more federal green jobs funding than any other region in the United States. She has received local and national attention for her work in economic development and public policy. She was invited to the White House Business Council on multiple occasions to advise the Obama administration on the needs of local businesses.
Within her first seven months in office, Leanne was named one of six national finalists for EMILY’s List’s Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award. In addition to her legislative duties, she also serves as Fundraising Co-Chair of the PA House Democratic Campaign Committee. Leanne holds an MBA in Urban Economic Development from Eastern University and a BA from Rutgers University. Leanne lives in Swarthmore with her young son Wendell and husband, Reverend David Braneky.
